Local Government and Planning Ministers' Council

The Council's objective is to enhance the effectiveness of local government and planning in Australia and New Zealand.

In June 2001 the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) amalgamated the existing Local Government Ministers' Conference and Planning Ministers' Conference to create a combined Local Government and Planning Ministers' Council (LGPMC).

The Council leads debate in decision making on key strategic policy matters for Local Government and planning in Australia and New Zealand that can be addressed at the national level.

It is supported by the Local Government and Planning Joint Committee (Joint Committee), with the Local Government Joint Officers' Group (LOGJOG) and the Planning Officials' Group (POG), as standing sub-committees.
