Key Strategic Priorities

Council Members agreed at their first meeting that they would lead debate and decision making on key strategic policy matters for Local Government and planning in Australia and New Zealand that can be addressed at the national level.

The Council agreedĀ on a number of priorities for local government and planning which the Council will consider including:

  • local government autonomy and funding;
  • community strengthening;
  • management of natural resources;
  • working towards more economically, socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities;
  • addressing the implications of population and demographic change for infrastructure supply and demand;
  • land use and transport planning; and
  • local government services and indigenous communities.
